Akira is a BOY, he is the 2nd male with girlie look in Hikago after Fujiwara no Sai. Akira is Shindou Hikaru's mortal opponent, his obsession to mastered the Kami no Itte had made Hikaru change his mind about GO. As a son of the best GO pro, Touya Meijin, he has been taught the classic GO techniques by his own father. Akari is undoubtedly a GO prodigy, even when he play with Sai (through Hikaru) he stands tall.

It seems like he doesn't care about anything else but GO. He told his father the reason why he joined his school GO club is only to be able to challenge Hikaru in the Pro contest. With his quiet, cool, calm and polite attitude he has many fans, but he doesn't seem to be aware of it ^^". His existence in the GO club made a lot of members feel uncomfortable because his level is far from them. I think it's too bad such a talented guy like him doesn't not have many friends T_T.
